for 4-ft (1.2 m) Parabolic Antennas

Description
These heated and unheated radomes provide the feeds of 4-ft (1.2 m) parabolic antennas with protection against weather and physical damage. Type 39180A heated radome is designed for single-polarized, 890-2700 MHz antennas.

A 120- or 240-volt, 50- or 60-hertz power source can be used to energize the radome heater. The 770-watt heater is controlled by thermostats to operate between the limits of 22 and 38°F (-5.6 and 3.3°C). The thermostats are housed in a weatherproof control box that mounts on a tower member or the tower mounting pipe for the antenna.

The installation, maintenance, or removal of antenna systems requires qualified, experienced personnel. Andrew installation instructions have been written for such personnel. Antenna systems should be inspected once a year by qualified personnel to verify proper installation, maintenance, and condition of equipment.

1 Attach Radome to Antenna. Have two persons handle the radome and place it against the reflector rim so that the flash trademark is correctly positioned as shown. For heated radomes, the power cable must be near the top of the reflector. Also, the red tape on the radome must be adjacent to the red tape at the top of the reflector.

The Type 39180A, 2-GHz radome, however, must be positioned with its arrow parallel (within 10°) to the plane of polarization; the polarization of the heater cable will depend on the polarization.

Align the holes and use 6 bolts to attach the radome, and tighten them evenly. Make sure that two flat washers are used as shown.

Heated Radomes Only
2 Attach Control Box. Remove the cover plate from the control box. Tightly attach the box connector to the control box, using weather sealant tape on the threads.

Position the control box on a tower member or the tower mounting pipe an attach the box with the pipe clamps end-to-end to form one long clamp. Rout the conduit and attach it to the control box.


3 Install Heater Cable. Route the heater cable to the control box as shown. Fasten the cable to the rear surface of the reflector with two cable clamps and size 10 self-tapping screws provided. Drill holes in the reflector for these screws using a size 21 drill, diameter 0.159" (4 mm).

Tape the remaining cable to the mounting framework at 12" (30 cm) intervals and pass the cable end through the control box connector. Fold and tape excess cable near the control box. Tighten the cap of the box connector to ensure a weather-resistant connection.
