Hoisting by Crane or Helicopter. Attach the 5/8" (15.9 mm) shackles at the rear of the antenna as shown in Figure 6. Connect the two hoist straps (or chokers) to these shackles. Then join the straps with a 3/4" (19-mm) shackle and connect it to the hook of the hoist line. (This arrangement of fixed strap lenghts will hold the antenna vertical when it is lifted clear of the skid.)

Connect the pulley to the hoist line as shown in Figure 7. Wrap the short strap around the antenna near the feed end and connect the strap loops with a 3/4" (19-mm) shackle.

Figure 7. Pulley and Control Rope
Attached for Horizontal Lifting

Tie a rope to the shackle, pass the rope through the pulley and back through the shackle.

Pull the rope to adjust its length so that the antenna will remain horizontal when it is lifted off the skid. Twist the rope around the shackle and keep tension on the rope as lifting starts -- see Figure 8. When the antenna is clear of the skid, slowly release the rope tension until the feed end of the antenna hangs vertically as shown in Figure 9. Then remove the rope, shackle, and strap as shown in Figure 10.
