CAUTION: THE MATING FLANGE SURFACES AND THE INSIDE OF THE CABLE SECTIONS MUST BE CLEAN. Inspect these visually and remove any dirt, adhesive, or other foreign material before beginning the steps to join the outer conductors.

25. Slide the repair section outer conductor, allowing its flange to pass through the four bolts, until the flange is loosely touching the centering fixture. Taking care that the O-rings are not displaced, remove the four bolts and then remove the centering fixture.

26. Insert the remaining flange bolts from the hardware kit.

27. Slide the outer conductor until the flanges butt, taking care that the O-rings are not displaced. Install the remaining flange hardware, using a back-and-forth twisting action to install the threadseal washers.

28. Use the torque wrench assembly (#220045) to tighten the bolts to a 38- to 40-ft-lb torque. After the bolts are torqued, coat the exposed threads with Alumashield® (#203233-4).

CAUTION: TIGHTEN THE BOLTS GRADUALLY with the ratchet wrench assembly (#221180). Use an alternating pattern to produce uniform contact and to avoid warping the flanges. If nut runners are being used, first hand-tighten four bolts 90° apart. Next, run up the other nuts.
Then tighten all bolts to the final torque, by hand, using the torque wrench assembly.

29. Remove the protective covering at the TX end of the repair section and attach a strain insulator (#207567) to the inner conductor, flat side outward. Rotate the strain insulator until the inner conductor is extended about 1-1/4 inches (30 mm) beyond the insulator surface.

30. Attach the transition piece assembly (#220702) to the exposed inner conductor. Remove the spanner wrench attachment from the driver-ring torque wrench (#220047) and attach the torque wrench to the assembly.

CAUTION: ORIENT THE TORQUE WRENCH CORRECTLY.

31. Attach the male connector from the connector hardware kit (#220203) using the bolt and washer from the same kit. Turn the bolt by hand until snug. Hold the torque wrench stationary and use the sliding T-handle (#221760) and the 1.5-inch (38 mm) socket (#221761) to tighten the bolt. Tighten the connection to a torque between 250 and 275 ft-lb.

32. Rotate the strain insulator to align the back of the male connector with the flat surface of the strain insulator.
