Etching D-Series Fiber D-Series fiber can be etched in a 10% solution of Hyrdofluoric Acid for access to the guiding region or core. Removal of the silica between the flat of the "D" and the caldding (approximately 1 hour, 23 minutes |
etching time) and 10% to 50% of the cladding layer itself will cause a response in the fiber. The cladding etches at a faster rate than the silica. Trial etches must be performed to determine the etching time necessary to precisely achieve the desired depth and fiber response. |
