3. Assemble and Attach Shield
Place the reflector facing upward with the aid of a crane.
First, carefully raise the reflector so that it rests on the
rim. Then carefully lower the reflector so that it rests on
wooden supports placed under the antenna mounting
ring. Place wooden braces as needed to hold the
reflector in a stable position.

Loosely assemble the shield sections on the ground as
shown in Figure 2. The ends of the shield ring on each
section have marks that must be matched as the sections
are joined; that is, A to A, B to B, etc. Start the
assembly of two overlapping sections with two bolts
near the shield flange and the splice block bolt at the
shield ring. Then add the remaining bolts along the overlap.

Have four men lift the shield and position it on the reflector
so that one of the two red tapes on the shield aligns
with the red tape on the reflector rim as shown in Figure
3. This marking indicates the top of the antenna.

Note: The shield width is not uniform and is maximum at
one of the section joints. This is called the high point of
the shield. When dual waveguide feeds are installed,
they are positioned with their waveguide feeds bends in the
horizontal plane on either the left or right side of antenna
center. The high point of the shield must then be on the
