Shield Assembly
for Parabolic Antennas 		Bulletin 237200A
Introduction

Instructions given in this bulletin apply to shield
assemblies used for parabolic antennas with diameters of
6 ft (1.8 m), 8 ft (2.4 m), 10 ft (3 m), 12 ft (3.7 m), and
15 ft (4.5 m). Antennas 15 ft (4.5 m) in diameter require
8 shield sections; antennas of smaller diameter require 4
shield sections. The assembly includes shield sections,
air scoop, bolt hardware, RF gasket, plywood shims,
and sealant.
Notice

The installation, maintenance, or removal of antenna
systems requires qualified, experienced personnel.
Andrew installation instructions have been written for
such personnel. Antenna systems should be inspected
once a year by qualified personnel to verify proper
installation, maintenance, and condition of equipment.

1 Arrange the shield sections on level ground so that
the ends of the shield ring are matched according to
the match marks on the ring; that is, A to A, B to B, and
so on. Note: The assembled shield height is not uniform
and is maximum at one of the section joints; that is
called the high point of the shield, which is also the top
of the shield, and is marked by a red stripe.

2 Start the assembly of two overlapping sections with
two bolts near the shield flange and two bolts near
the shield ring. Then add the remaining bolts along the
joint. Insert each bolt with a flat washer on it from the
inner (RF absorber) side of the shield and add a flat
washer, lock washer, and nut from the outer side of the
shield. Do not tighten the bolts. Continue in this way at
each shield joint.

3 Loosely attach a joint bracket to the shield ring at
the shield joint with four bolts. Insert each bolt with
a flat washer on it from the inner (RF absorber) side of
the shield and add a flat washer, lock washer, and nut
from the outer side of the shield. Do not tighten the
bolts.
