5.5.2 Attach Antenna-end Repair Section Segment

The antenna-end segment of the repair section can now be installed on the antenna side of the opened transmission line. The ANT end of this segment is attached to the antenna side of the opened transmission line as follows:

1. Place the antenna-end segment on the hanger cradles, or temporary supports, with the ANT end toward the antenna. Remove the pressure gage to release the excess air pressure in the segment.

2. Remove the pressure plate at the ANT end by first removing the flange hardware. Since this plate has an integral threaded stud attached to the center conductor, hold the plate in position during and immediately after removal of the final flange bolt. This hardware can be discarded.

CAUTION: REMOVE ALL HARDWARE CAREFULLY. Use the torque wrench assembly (#220045) and the combination wrench to loosen the hex nut. Remove the nut and lock washer. Then, use a knife or screwdriver to pry off the threadseal washer on this side. Do not remove this threadseal washer by striking the threaded end of the bolt with a hammer or similar tool. After prying off this washer, remove the bolt using care to avoid abrasion.

3. Rotate the pressure plate counterclockwise to begin disengagement of the threaded stud. During the disengagement, carefully lower the plate until the inner conductor is resting against the outer conductor.
Disengage completely and remove the pressure plate, using care to avoid damage to the conductors or flange.

4. Cover this end with one of the supplied plastic bags until ready for attachment.

5. Remove the pressure plate at the TX end, again by first removing the flange hardware. Since this plate also has an integral threaded stud attached to the center conductor, hold the plate in position during and immediately after removal of the final flange bolt.

NOTE: This flange also has a split plate (#221705) and a gasket on the back side. Retain the split plate for reassembly after the installation is complete. The gasket can be discarded.

6. Pull the plate horizontally and slide approximately 4 inches (102 mm) of the inner conductor out of the cable section. Use the inner conductor tool (#220335) to hold the inner conductor stationary and rotate the plate counterclockwise to disengage the threaded stud. Remove the pressure plate, using care to avoid damage to the conductors or flange.

7. Cover this end with one of the supplied plastic bags.

8. At low level, place the cable on the hanger cradles. If the installation is at high or transition levels, install lifting assemblies (#221755) at each support and attach ropes and pulleys to raise the cable horizontally until it is nesting against the cradles.
