For 6.5-GHz Systems, two types of antennas are used:
unshielded standard parabolic and shielded high perfor-
mance (HP Series) and UHX@reg; ultra high performance
antennas. (Figure 2, 6.5-GHz Private Microwave Sys-
tems). Due to the higher frequency, grid antennas are
not usable. Currently the majority of private 6.5 GHz
systems use standard antennas with or without ra-
domes. However, as migration occurs and frequency
congestion increases, shielded antennas may be re-
quired to meet system performance objectives.

Can I convert my antenna and will it be economical?
What are the required materials for converting?
How much will it cost?
What will be the impact on antenna gain and radiation
pattern performance?
All of these questions need to be answered before a
sound decision can be made. Your antenna manufactur-
er should be able to provide you with the answers and
advise you of possible antenna performance trade-offs.
It is important that you evaluate both the economic and
performance issues compared with the benefits of pur-
chasing a new antenna.
