3.1 Replacing the Desiccant

When the desiccant color changes from blue to
pink, it requires renewal.
  1. Isolate all transmission lines by turning the in line valve(s) to the "O" position.
  2. Access the desiccant cylinders by removing the front panel.
  3. Disconnect two clear 3/8" vinyl tubes from the chassis output (below the terminal strip) and
    the output valve (or DP-4-001). Refer to illustration
    Section 2.6. Fully remove
    the front panel.
  4. Remove the desiccant cyclinders from the front
    panel. Remove one end of the clear tubing
    which connects the desiccant tubes together.
    Spread the clamps holding each tube and lift
    the tube free from the assembly.
  5. Remove and replace the desiccant. Unscrew
    the end cap of the desiccant tube and pour out
    the contents. Pour in new or regenerated
    desiccant, replace the cap and replace the tube
    in its holder. Re-install tubing to the chassis out
    put and the output valve (or DP-4-001).

3.2 Replacing the Compressor Air
Intake Filter

Replace the compressor air intake filter every
six months for proper compressor operation and
maximum length of service. To gain access to the
compressor air intake filter, remove the chassis
cover as outline in Section 2.1. Never operate the
dehydrator without the intake filter intact, as this
will allow dust and foreign particles to enter the
compressor and reduce the operating life.

AC Compressor

The MRL/H-052-101 (120 VAC) and -102 (230
VAC) compressors have an integral air filter within
a black housing attached to the top of the compressor.
To replace this filter assembly:
  1. Turn the power switch OFF.
  2. Isolate all transmission lines by turning the in
    line valve(s) to the "O" position.
  3. Gently pull the clear output hose from the
    barbed fitting on the compressor.
  4. Remove the four attachment screws on top of
    the unit.
  1. Lift the filter assembly off the compressor.
  2. Discard the old filter assembly and replace with
    a new one.
  3. Replace and tighten four attachment screws
    and replace the clear output hose on the
    barbed fitting.
  4. Test the compressor operation. Turn the power
    switch ON. The compressor will run for several
    seconds, pressurizing the internal tubing and
    desiccant chambers. Observe the pressure
    gauge. A slowly falling temperature gauge
    indicates a leak that must be located and
    repaired.
  5. If the pressure gauge remains steady,
    indicating an airtight system, return the in-line
    valve(s) to the original "I" position.


3.2.2 DC Compressor

The MRL/H-052-103 compressors have an
external air intake filter attached to the
compressor intake port. To replace this filter:
  1. Turn the power switch OFF.
  2. Isolate all transmission lines by turning the in
    line valve(s) to the "O" position.
  3. Gently pull the clear output hose from the
    barbed fitting on the compressor.
  4. Pull the air intake filter off the compressor
    intake port.
  5. Discard the old filter assembly and replace with
    a new one by pressing onto the compressor
    intake port.
  6. Replace the clear output hose on the barbed fitting.
  7. Test the compressor operation. Turn the power
    switch ON. The compressor will run for several
    seconds, pressurizing the internal tubing and
    desiccant chambers. Observe the pressure
    gauge. A slowly falling pressure gauge
    indicates a leak that must be located and repaired.
  8. If the pressure gauge remains steady,
    indicating an airtight system, return the in-line
    valve(s) to the original "I" position.


3.3 Lubrication

No parts of the MRL/H-052 require lubrication.


Troubleshooting
Section 4
If you experience difficulty with your dehyrdrator, use
the troubleshooting procedures described below.

4.1 Low Pressure Alarm

A low pressure alarm indicates that there is either
a leak in the system or that the compressor is not
operating properly. To isolate the problem:

Isolate the transmission line(s). Turn the in-line
valve(s) to "off". Disconnect the dehydrator from
the in-line valve. The compressor should turn on
and air should flow from the outer tube. If not, refer
to section 4.1.1.
If the compressor turns on and air flows from the
outlet tube, place a finger over the outlet to seal off
the dehydrator output. Allow the compressor to run
until it turns off. With the outlet still capped, the
pressure gauge should indicate a constant reading.
if the gauge drops a noticeable amount in 30
seconds, there is a leak inside the dehydrator.
Remove the cover from the unit and use a leak
detector solution to find the leak. If the pressure
gauge reading remained constant in the above
test, there is a leak in the transmission line system.
